About the event
Remember when your AIM away message said “brb, making art”? Or when your burned mix CD skipped right as Hollaback Girl came on? Mood check: Millennium.
This showcase pulls straight from the early 2000s—boy bands and Hot Topic angst, mall culture and Juicy tracksuits, frosted tips, glitter graphics, and all the loud, layered chaos of Y2K. But beneath the pop gloss is something deeper.
These works reflect a generation coming of age during a cultural shift—from the shock of 9/11 to the unrest of war and global uncertainty. It’s art shaped by contradiction: fear and freedom, anxiety and excess, heartbreak and humor. What emerged was a kind of creative resilience—using color, style, music, and self-expression to push back against the weight of the world.
