Drawing Fundamentals: Home School

Welcome to Drawing Fundamentals, a comprehensive 4-week course designed specifically for homeschool students. This course aims to introduce students to the essential techniques and principles of drawing, fostering creativity and building a strong foundation in visual arts. Whether your child is a budding artist or just looking to explore their creative side, this course will provide them with the skills and confidence to express themselves through drawing.

Course Objectives:

- Develop fundamental drawing skills and techniques.

- Understand the basic elements of art, including line, shape, form, and texture.

- Explore various drawing mediums such as pencils, charcoal, and ink.

- Enhance observational skills and the ability to draw from life.

- Encourage creativity and self-expression through guided projects.

Course Content:

Students will begin by exploring various drawing tools and learning basic techniques. They will practice creating different types of lines and drawing simple shapes and forms. As the course progresses, students will be introduced to shading techniques, including hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling, to create depth and texture in their drawings.

The course will also cover perspective drawing, where students will learn the principles of one-point and two-point perspective to create realistic landscapes and scenes. Composition and layout will be discussed, helping students to understand how to arrange elements within their drawings effectively.

In addition, students will practice drawing from life, focusing on still life and figure drawing. They will apply their observational skills and the techniques they have learned to create detailed and accurate representations of real-life subjects. The course will culminate in a final project that allows students to showcase their progress and creativity.

Materials Needed:

- Sketchbook

- Graphite pencils (various grades)

- Erasers (kneaded and standard)

- Charcoal sticks/pencils

- Ink pens

- Ruler

- Blending stumps
